Hüsnü Bingöl: Between Hero and Tyrant

He was feared. He was respected. He was never understood. Iğdır was a land shaped by empires and conflict. From 1828 to 1917, it was under Tsarist Russian rule. In 1919, it was shaken by civil war. From 1920 onward, it became part of the Turkish Republic. In the early 1930s, the region stood at the edge of chaos. War, migration, and the aftermath of the Ararat Rebellion had left deep scars. Into this fragile landscape came Hüsnü Bingöl, a retired cavalry major who became the Regional Head of National Intelligence (MAH, the precursor to today’s MIT). To some, he brought order. To others, fear. This book reveals the story of a man who walked the thin line between justice and power. A true story of a man caught between hero and tyrant.
