September

On the shores of the Bosphorus, Suat and Süreyya seek a quieter life away from the pressures of the city. Yet peace proves fragile. When their close friend Necip becomes a frequent visitor, his shared love of music draws him toward Suat, awakening a feeling that neither can openly acknowledge. What begins in silence gradually unsettles the careful order surrounding them. Mehmet Rauf traces this hidden passion through glances, hesitations, music, jealousy, and the smallest shifts of mood. The changing season becomes part of the drama as summer fades into September and affection deepens beneath the restraints of marriage and society. Every unspoken desire carries the possibility of loss. Regarded as a foundational work of the modern Turkish psychological fiction, September turns a forbidden love into a subtle study of loneliness, conscience, and emotional captivity. Intimate, elegant, and quietly devastating, the novel reveals how lives may be transformed by feelings that remain almost entirely unspoken.
