The Digital Deluge – Untruth and Consequences What Do We Do Now?

Haluk Şahin argues that we have to strive to make truth the main axis of communication by asking radical questions. Drowned in a deluge of untruth, we are facing a major crisis in communications and democracy. Is this the end of history? What can we do? “Truth and lies have become intertwined. We see ourselves passing through a deep crisis of truth. The most toxic ideologies, built on lies, are on the rise. People are drowning in cultural garbage and vile clamor amidst the unending commotion. Democracy, which should be based on the informed decisions of rational people, has turned into an irrational game of deception.” What do we do now? Emeritus Professor Şahin, as Turkey’s first Ph. D. in Communications and a veteran journalist has dared to ask the critical questions about the causes and consequences of the big crisis. A must read for scholars and practitioners alike.
